Photos – Fire fully contained near Vero Lake Estates

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — State and county firefighters fully contained a blaze that spread quickly Thursday morning near the Vero Lake Estates community, authorities said.

The flames were 100 percent contained at 15 acres about 2 p.m., according to Florida Forest Service crews.

Fire crews responded to the flames about 11 a.m. Thursday. The fire quickly grew from five acres to about 20 acres, Fire Rescue spokesman Cory Richter said.

Forest Service crews also are on scene. Fire crews are working to protect homes from the flames, Richter said. Forest Service reported no structures were threatened. Richter said the blaze got close to two structures used for storage and burnt up a few pieces of farm equipment.

The cause of the fire is unknown, Richter said.
