Tiger Lily annual show ‘Color Washed’ now open

Tiger Lily Art Studios and Gallery artists, Julia Carter, Travis Blanton, Kirsten Kowalski, Shotsi Cain Lajoie, Sharon Sexton and Glenda Taylor invited the public to their opening of their Annual show of new work “Color Washed” on Friday, March 2.

“There’s no such thing as too much color,” said Julia Carter, one of the studio’s painters. “I want every hue to be celebrated. A Color washed home, is a happy home.”

Her recent works of Italy’s coast are adorned with a kaleidoscope of color.

“I love pattern; my warm colorful palette is influenced by natural tropical settings and gardens of south Florida,” said Sharon Sexton. “To me art is like gardening, choosing color, subject, then arranging it all in a design, it’s all art to me.”

Glenda Taylor continues to be inspired by the sea life and the ocean.

“There are many colors under the sea that don’t really exist elsewhere in nature,” she said. “The saturation of these intense, almost neon colors is captivating.”

Kirsten Kowalski’s landscape photography is quite literally awash in color. She can be found on the beach in the early hours of the morning, usually arriving while it is still dark. She photographs the sun rising as the sea and sky becomes awash in magnificent colors.

The art at Tiger Lily features paintings, mixed media, photography and sculpture and is located at 1903 14th Avenue in the Historic Downtown Art District. The show will be open to the public for viewing until March 31.
