Registration now open for educational workshops at McKee

VERO BEACH – McKee Botanical Garden is offering educational workshops in the month of March and registration is now open.

The first was held March 3 and the next is coming up Saturday, March 10. Dr. Kendra Brown and Joyce D’ Agata will host an educational session on Creating Serene Spaces with a Mini Meditation, Fairy or Bonsai Hypertufa Garden.

The class will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Participants will learn how to create a serene environment ideal for a fairy, meditation or easy bonsai garden by making a hypertufa pot to take home.

Ideas and demonstrations for transforming pots to serene spaces will be covered and participants will also take home instructions for creating hypertufa pots and a copy of Dr. Brown’s recently published book: Erica’s Blog: A Tool Kit for Fixing What’s Not Working in Your Life.

Participants are encouraged to wear gardening clothes as this workshop can be messy. Bring rubber gloves and a dust mask, which can be purchased from Home Depot or Lowe’s. All other materials will be provided.

The cost for this workshop is $50 for McKee members and $60 for non-members.

On Saturday March 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Nikki Stolze, Horticulture Department staff member at McKee, will host Waterlilies 101 and give a behind-the-scenes look at what McKee’s staff does to maintain the Garden’s amazing waterlily collection.

Nikki will teach you how to identify the different types of waterlilies, how to propagate and divide plants, what soil they like and the importance of choosing the right location to plant.

This is a hands-on workshop and participants should be prepared to get muddy and wet and dress accordingly. The cost for this workshop is $10 for McKee members and $12 for non-members.

Space is limited. Pre-registration is required for all classes. To register call 772-794-0601 or stop by the Garden during regular business hours. Checks and cash only, please.
