Eunice Lynette James, 93, Indian River County

Eunice Lynette (nee Brooks) James, 93, of Indian River County, died Feb. 10, 2018.  She was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Black Mountain, N.C., and was the last survivor of four brothers and three sisters.

Eunice was a homemaker who resided in Indian River County for more than 50 years.  She and her husband, Herbert James, Jr., were part of the citrus industry and affiliated with Graves Brothers Groves.

Eunice was widowed at the age of 20 in 1944 when her first husband was killed in World War II.  2nd Lt. Fred Gordon Fowler was a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps.

Eunice and Herb James were married 62 years until his death in 2010.

Her passion in life was loving her family and her friends.  It was her joy always to be there for them, especially her grandchildren.

First United Methodist Church was very important to her and being part of its ministries expressed her love for God’s people.

She is survived by her children, Lynette Armstrong, Brenda Davis (Mike Jacobs), H. Thomas James III (Maria), and Norman James (Robyn); grandchildren,  Joey Lustig, Jimmy Lustig, Heather Benson, Tommy James, Steven James, Sarah Bussen, Anna Kauderman, Lauren Davis, Scott Davis, and Mark Davis; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her siblings and her husbands, Eunice was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Lustig.

Family and friends are invited to honor Eunice’s life Friday, Feb. 16, 10 a.m., at Vero Beach First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th Street, with Rev. Rebecca Oliver officiating.  Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery.

Memorial remembrances may be made to her church.

 

Joan Judith Nash, 93, Vero Beach

Joan Judith Nash, 93, of Vero Beach, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, a good friend, an avid reader and writer – she sewed, cooked, entertained, had a zest for life, and was an inspiration to her family.

Joan was born in New York City on Sept. 6, 1925, to Helen and Harold Ganun. She married George Nash in 1947 and together they raised four children in Setauket, N.Y.

When the children were grown, Joan worked at Stony Brook University as an Administrative Assistant to the head of the Energy Management Training Program.

Over the years she was a dedicated volunteer: Girl Scout leader, den mother, Red Cross, nurse’s aide, local Sheriff’s Office, and Crisis Line operator.

Joan and George moved to Vero Beach in the early 1980s to get away from the New York winters. Her husband worked at Piper and Joan got a job at Indian River Hospital. They both loved Vero, and spent lots of time exploring and enjoying Florida.

She was appreciated and loved at her final home, Willowbrooke Court, and will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her four children, Christine (Patrick) Finley, Timothy Nash (Meredyth), Kevin Nash (Carol), and Jonathan Nash (Teri); nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and reception will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 11 a.m., at Willowbrooke Court, Indian River Estates.

A funeral mass and reception will be held at St. John of the Cross, Monday, Feb. 26, 10 a.m. No flowers; donations to the charity of your choice.

 

Richard Pokriefke, 90, Sebastian

Richard Pokriefke, 90, Sebastian, passed away on Feb. 12, 2018.  He was born June 18, 1927.

He joined the Navy at 17 and served three years on the U.S.S. New Kent during WWII.

Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene; and three daughters.

Donald F. Webster, 88, Vero Beach

Donald F. Webster, 88, of Vero Beach, died Feb. 11, 2018, of natural causes at Indian River Estates medical center. He was born July 22, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., where he was self-employed at Whale Art / DOW Screw Machine Company and then moved to Vero Beach upon his retirement in 1987.

He is the beloved son of the late Henry F. and Lillian (nee Hagedorn) Webster and beloved brother of the late Virginia K. Weaver and Marjorie J. Docter.

He is survived by his loving nephews and niece, James Docter, David Docter and Marilyn Santana (nee Docter); and grand-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Faith Church, 10380 SW Village Center Dr. #218, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Final services and burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
