In Memoriam: Feb. 10 – 12

Tom Gamble, 96, Vero Beach

Tom Gamble, 96, died on Feb. 9, 2018, in Vero Beach. Tom was born to Lota Belle Davis Gamble and George H. Gamble on Oct. 13, 1921, in Headland, Ala.

Tom served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.  He started his career in Citrus sales in Orlando and continued in Ft. Pierce, and Vero Beach.

He enjoyed his work and the people he worked with.

Tom and Trudy Whitty were married on Oct. 25, 1953.

He was an avid golfer and played regularly each week for many years.  He became a member of Asbury United Methodist Church soon after moving to Vero Beach in 1984.  He was an active member for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Trudy Gamble; three daughters, Susan Weaver Jones (Chuck), Jennifer Gamble (James Nicolls), and Allison Gamble (Mike Smith); four grandsons, Thomas G. Gee (Kayla), Andrew D. Conner, Justin M. Weaver (Jessica), and Kevin D. Conner; granddaughter, Katelyn E. Gee; great-granddaughter, Robin C. Gee; and sister, Betty Mitchell (Bud).

He is predeceased by one daughter, Kathy Gamble; his parents; and five sisters, Inez Shirley, Marjorie Owens, Floryne Hobbs, Nell Knowles, and Grace Sanders.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Asbury United Methodist Church.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m.  Everyone is invited to a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1708 43rd Ave., Vero Beach.

Tom loved and was loved by his family!  His family was his wife, children, grandchildren, sister, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.

 

Charles Jonason, 92, of Vero Beach

Charles Jonason, 92, of Vero Beach, died peacefully at home on Feb. 10, 2018, a month short of his 93rd birthday. Charles was born in 1925 in Queens, N.Y.

He graduated from Queens College with a degree in Economics and later received his Masters Degree in Education from Hofstra University, New York. He was a member of the United States Navy during WWII.

After marrying Pauline in 1950, they lived in Howard Beach Queens, then Hicksville Long Island, and later settled in North Merrick where they spent the majority of their lives raising their family.

Most of Charles’ career life involved working as a teacher with the North Bellmore School district, Long Island, N.Y. Charles and Pauline moved from North Merrick, Long Island to Vero Beach where they have been residents for the past 24 years.

Charles was a generous and witty individual who loved reading, crossword puzzles, walking and classical music as well as good conversation with others.

He will be missed by those whose lives he touched.

Charles is survived by his loving wife, Pauline, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage and three years of engagement. Other surviving family members are his son, Randall (Julie) Jonason, of Mosely, Va.; daughter, Ruthellen (Walter) Earnest, of Edgewater Fla.; grandchildren, Jennifer Jonason, of Virginia, Nicole Jonason, of Miami, Gregory (Diana) Jonason, of Monroe, Ct., Dr.Peter Jonason, of Australia, Matthew and Christopher Jonason, of Connecticut, and Jessica Hughes and Sean Friss, of Virginia. In addition, sister, Jeanette Toumey, of New Jersey; nephew, James Miele; and niece Johanna Linden; extended family includes Joseph, Nicole and Peg Barbara; as well as many great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by son, Raymond Jonason; and parents, Charles and Ruth Jonason; as well as in-laws Mario and Concetta Barbara.

Charles was cremated at Cox Seawood Funeral Home. Per Charles request, no formal services will be held.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date for family members.
