Jessica Schmitt tapped as new Executive Director Literacy Services

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – We are excited to welcome Jessica Schmitt as the new Executive Director of Literacy Services of Indian River County. She joins Anali and Elida, our fantastic Tutor Trainer and North County Coordinator in furthering the mission to provide quality literacy tutoring to local adults so that they and their family can become more contributing members of the community through improved literacy skills.

In making the decision to hire the next Executive Director, the Board knew we needed to find someone who could lead the organization into the next chapter. We firmly believe that we found that person in Jessica. She has the experience, energy and commitment to continue the success of Literacy Services and also brings to the organization a broad sense of community collaboration that is vital to our vision – to end multi-generational illiteracy,” states Board Member Katy Healy.

Jessica has an extensive background in non-profit development and she has called Vero Beach her home for the last 10 years. She started as an AmeriCorps member at Indian River Habitat for Humanity and was most recently the Director of Resource Development at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County. Jessica serves on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast. She is also an active volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Jessica states, “I am honored to continue and expand the important and wonderful work of Literacy Services. The ability to read is essential to a person’s success and it has a ripple effect to their family and the community.”

We look forward to the positive impact Jessica’s leadership will have on the organization and hope you will join us in giving her a warm welcome. Thank you for your continued commitment to creating a community of readers.

Michelle N. Servos, Board Chairperson
