Hallstrom Planetarium celebrates 25-year Holiday tradition

The Indian River State College Hallstrom Planetarium on the Main Campus in Fort Pierce will have two special holiday shows this season: the Treasure Coast tradition “Star of Wonder.”

Star of Wonder started Dec. 1 and continues Dec. 2, 8 and 9, and “Yuletides,” a live holiday concert under the stars of planetarium on Dec. 9.

A holiday favorite, “Star of Wonder,” celebrates its 25th year recreating the skies as they appeared 2,000 years ago. Viewers will trace what may have been the path of the mysterious star followed by the Wise Men, showing the constellations and the locations of planets.

“What was it in the sky that compelled the Magi to embark on a journey of hundreds of miles across desert and mountains?” asked Jon Bell, Hallstrom Planetarium Director. “This program will bring the audience one step closer to understanding.”

Star of Wonder will be presented Fridays at 6 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Tickets for Star of Wonder are $5.

Enjoy the concert “Yuletides” featuring songs of the holiday season with the live electronic music of world-renowned composer and artist Jonn Serrie under the planetarium stars as Hallstrom Planetarium Director Jon Bell projects special effects of stars and stellar beacons on the planetarium dome – all choreographed to the music.

“Yuletides” will be presented Dec. 10 at 4 and 7 p.m. Tickets for the show are $12.

Tickets for shows at the Hallstrom Planetarium can be purchased online at www.irsc.edu or at the box office in the McAlpin Fine Arts Center lobby on the IRSC Main Campus at 3209 Virginia Ave., in Fort Pierce, Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or by phone with VISA, MasterCard, Discover or American Express.
