INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dash camera footage released Monday shows deputies frantically attempting to take a robbery and carjacking suspect into custody. The footage, plus the audio of a 911 call, was released Monday by the Sheriff’s Office.
The man, identified as Dallas Ray Baldwin, robbed a Cumberland Farms and attempted to rob a Burger King. He also was involved in a carjacking and high speed chase.
Baldwin, 54, of Sebastian, was given a variety of charges for the crimes. He remains at the Indian River County Jail without bond.
The attempted robbery happened about 6:40 a.m. Saturday at Burger King at 8680 U.S. 1 in Wabasso.
In the 911 call, the Burger King manager told dispatchers a man, later identified as Baldwin, tried to rob the restaurant. The manager told dispatchers Baldwin implied he had a gun, but that she didn’t see it.
The manager said Baldwin was at the front counter when he leaned in and told her, “This is a robbery. Don’t say anything and give me the money.” The manager went to the drive-thru register to act as if she was going to get money, but instead grabbed her phone and ran to the back, according to the 911 call.
The manager told dispatchers Baldwin then left the restaurant, got in a white truck and was headed west on County Road 510.

Baldwin then went to the Cumberland Farms at the corner of Barber Street and Sebastian Boulevard, deputies said. He walked in the store, claimed he had a firearm and stole $386, officials said.
He then fled on foot to a man who was in his driveway on Landsdowne Drive, beat him up and stole his car. Law enforcement officials spotted Baldwin at 11:17 a.m. in a stolen Kia Soul near U.S. 1 and 45th Street. Baldwin fled from deputies and traveled north on U.S. 1, reaching speeds of 99 mph, deputies said.
Baldwin made several U-turns and was traveling south on U.S. 1 when he ran over stop sticks deployed by deputies at 85th Street. The car lost air in all four tires.
The dash camera footage shows Baldwin fleeing from deputies at 15 mph with the flat tires. Deputies and Sebastian police made multiple attempts to stop the vehicle as it was traveling on its rims, deputies said.

Baldwin crashed into the right side of another motorist’s vehicle during the pursuit, and kept driving, officials said.
At 3:45 p.m., law enforcement officials were able to corner the stolen vehicle and detain Baldwin.
Officers yelled “get out of the car” and “show me your hands” in the dash camera footage.
Deputies later determined the truck Baldwin was in earlier during the robbery incidents was owned by Hood Land Services, where Baldwin works. He was issued the vehicle as a company truck and had exclusive use of the vehicle.
Baldwin was arrested and taken into custody. He faces a variety of charges such as attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing and eluding, carjacking, battery on a person over 65, robbery and grand theft.
