Man hit by car and killed crossing 12th Street

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 48-year-old man is dead after being struck by a car late Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was identified as Larry T. Justice, of Nebraska. He was taken to the Indian River Medical Center and then flown to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce.

Justice was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m. Wednesday, officials said.

The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday at 12th Street, east of Old Dixie Highway and near the railroad tracks. Justice was trying to cross the westbound lanes of 12th Street when a westbound BMW struck him.

The BMW driver, Andrea Capas, 45, of Vero Beach, had no injuries and was not under the influence of alcohol, troopers said.

FHPcontinues to investigate the crash.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at 12th Street by the railroad tracks late Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The crash closed the westbound lane of 12th Street. Deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers were at the scene shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash and more information will be released Wednesday, said FHP spokesman Mark Wysocky.

No further information was immediately available.
