‘Defying the Nazis’ Nov. 5 at Unitarian Fellowship

VERO BEACH – Defying the Nazis, a powerful Ken Burns documentary about the rescue of hundreds of people early in World War II by Unitarian minister Waitstill Sharp and his wife, Martha, will be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5. Admission is free; advance tickets are not required.

Featuring Tom Hanks, this is a story about a middle-class Unitarian minister and his wife. On the eve of World War II, they leave their children with the congregation in Wellesley, Mass., travel to Europe and, during several trips overseas, rescue hundreds of Jews and other refugees.

Reviewers called Defying the Nazis “powerful,” “engrossing,” “remarkable,” “moving,” “valuable,” “commendable,” and “an incredible true story.”

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located on the southeast corner of 27th Avenue and 16th Street. It has easy parking and is handicap accessible.
