William G. Strunk, 95, Vero Beach

William G. Strunk, 95, of Vero Beach, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, in Greenville, S. Ca. Bill was born in Irene, S.D., and moved to Vero Beach nearly 14 years ago from New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

A graduate of the University of South Dakota, Bill worked for FMC, a chemical manufacturing and research company, for 55 years. During his employment with FMC he developed a famly of chemicals based on hydrogen peroxide used to bleach paper pulp at a time when the EPA was beginning to outlaw bleach in the process of paper production. This helped save the American paper and pulp industry. FMC subsequently created the Lifetime Technical Achievement Award to recognize his contributions to the industry.

Bill enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener and golfer.

Survivors include his son, Henry G. Strunk (Diane W.), of Travelers Rest, S. Ca.; sister, Carol Nielsen, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife of 70 years, Eileen R. Strunk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 301 University Ridge # 5850, Greenville, SC 29601 in honor of William G. Strunk.

Interment services will begin at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach with Rev. Paul Mace officiating.
