Man accused of child molestation

VERO BEACH — A 28-year-old New Jersey man was arrested after he was accused of touching an underage girl inappropriately on several occasions at a Vero Beach home.

Justin J. Hawn was charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 years old. He was released Sunday from the Indian River County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Police spoke with the girl’s mother at 8 a.m. August 25. She told them her mother had called her the day before and said the 9-year-old told her Hawn had “done something to her.”

The mother spoke with her child that night. The daughter told her Hawn had touched her inappropriately on several occasions from Oct. 2016 to May 2017.

Police set up a controlled phone call where the mother spoke with Hawn. In the phone call, Hawn admitted to the molestation.

Hawn was arrested and taken to the county jail for booking.
