GIFFORD — A 17-year-old was arrested after he robbed a man at gunpoint from whom he planned to buy three pairs of shoes, according to deputies.

Cortlin Tyrese Cobb, of the 4800 block of 38th Circle, Gifford, was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft over $300 and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.

Details on whether Cobb was booked into the Indian River County Jail or taken to a juvenile detention center were not immediately available. A mugshot for Cobb also was not available.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the victim went to the 4800 block of 38th Circle to sell three pairs of Nike Jordan shoes, deputies said.

Earlier that day, the victim had received a message from a potential buyer interested in purchasing the shoes.

The victim told deputies the potential buyer instructed him to park in the back of the Taylor Pointe apartment complex, by the basketball court. He boxed up the two pairs of shoes and started walking over to one of the apartment buildings when Cobb walked out and pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him.

Another unidentified man stole the shoes worth $350 while Cobb stole the victim’s gold chain worth $90. Cobb then searched the victim’s pockets and asked for money, but the victim took out his own wallet and showed Cobb he was broke.

Cobb asked where the victim was from, and the victim told him “Port St. Lucie.” Cobb then told the victim, “Don’t come back.”

After the robbery, the victim contacted deputies and gave them a physical description of Cobb. Deputies went to Cobb’s apartment and apprehended him.

Details on if the second man involved was arrested were not immediately available.
