VERO BEACH — The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is just a few days away in presenting this special collaborative concert that combines orchestral music with live dancing and classic film. Led by Aaron Collins, “American in Paris” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
The program features the iconic suite, “An American in Paris,” Gershwin’s love letter to the City of Paris, presented with newly remastered footage from the 1951 film starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.
Pianist Marius Tesch returns to perform Gershwin’s energetic and crowd-pleasing variations on “I got Rhythm,” while tap dancer extraordinaire, Alex Dugdale joins the SCSO for a fun and exciting rendition of Morton Gould’s Concerto for Tap Dancer.
In a special appearance, principal ballerina for the Orlando Ballet, Kate-Lynn Robichaux, will perform “The Dying Swan,” the solo dance made world famous by Anna Pavlova. Ms. Robichaux will dance the classic 1905 choreography by Mikhail Fokine to music from Camille Saint-Saen’s Le Carnaval des animaux. Duke Ellington’s jazzy orchestral piece, “Three Black Kings” completes the program.
Advance tickets to the special concert are priced at $30 for adults and $15 for students. Ages 6 and under are free. Flex tickets will not be accepted for this program. Ultimate Passes will be accepted.
“Collaboration” is the theme for the 2017-18 season of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins elaborates on this concert as an example:
“We are joined by talented performers from three different artistic disciplines for this concert,” said Collins. “Tap dance, ballet and solo piano performance are each part of this amazing program, not to mention Gershwin’s glorious music while Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron dance on screen.”
