Municipal Election voter registration deadline is Oct. 10

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Supervisor of Elections Leslie Swan reminds Indian River County residents that they must be registered to vote by Tuesday Oct. 10 in order to be eligible to vote in the Nov. 7 Municipal Elections.

In accordance with Florida Statute 97.055, the registration books close on the 29th day before each election. Once registration books close, new registrations may be accepted for the purpose of future elections only.

To be eligible to vote in the November Municipal Elections, voters must be at least 18 years of age, a US citizen, a legal resident of the State of Florida and a resident of the City of Sebastian or the City of Vero Beach. Persons who have been convicted of a felony or adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting must have their right to vote restored before they are eligible to vote.

Four candidates have qualified for three open seats on the City of Sebastian City Council and six candidates have qualified for two open seats on the City of Vero Beach City Council.

There is also an amendment question on the City of Vero Beach ballot.

For information on the candidates, voters should contact their respective municipality’s City Clerk.

Voter registration applications are available at the Supervisor of Elections office, public libraries, county offices, city halls and state agencies that provide public assistance. Applications are also available on the Supervisor of Elections website at www.voteindianriver.com.

Completed applications must be delivered to the Supervisor of Elections office or postmarked by the close of business on Tuesday Oct. 10.

It is important to update your voter record. The information you provide determines your precinct and eligibility. Registered voters may check their registration status at www.voteindianriver.com by selecting “Am I Registered?” on the homepage. Insert your last name, birthdate and the house number of your address and follow the online instructions. Voters may also call the Elections Office at 772-226-3440.
