Schools to remain closed Wednesday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Schools in the District will remain closed through Wednesday as officials assess damage caused by Hurricane Irma, officials said.

A decision regarding operations for the rest of the week will be made Tuesday afternoon. Also on Tuesday, all essential personnel are required to report to work, according to the School District of Indian River County.

Hurricane Irma, which is now a Tropical Storm, was slowly weakening while moving into southern Georgia Monday, according to weather meteorologists. When it was still a major hurricane, Irma passed through the county Sunday and Monday, damaging homes and flooding some county streets.
