Surface mold found in classrooms at local school

Mold found at Osceola Magnet School

VERO BEACH — Surface mold has been found in some classrooms at Osceola Magnet Elementary School, according to the Indian River County School District.

A professional mold remediation company will do a deep cleaning with chemicals over the weekend at the school, followed by an inspection, officials said. They said they plan on all classrooms opening as normal Monday and the cleaning ensures the school meets standards on the first day.

“Per school board procedure, surface mold is to be cleaned and a further air quality test will be done, if deemed necessary,” officials said. “Our number one priority is to keep our students and teachers safe.”

The school is located at 1110 18th Ave. S.W. in Vero Beach, south of Oslo Road and west of U.S. 1.
