Nonprofits submit projects; volunteers needed for United Way’s Day of Caring

VERO BEACH – United Way’s Day of Caring gives people an opportunity to join together and fight for our communities’ most pressing needs through a morning of community service.

United Way of Indian River County is rallying hundreds of volunteers throughout the community on Saturday Oct. 14 for Day of Caring, an annual event that mobilizes the caring power of volunteers to make a meaningful impact.

Volunteers of all ages are invited to come together as teams, families, or individuals.

This event is a win-win-win,” explained Michael Kint, United Way CEO. “Volunteers have a fun, yet, meaningful experience; the community receives a significant boost with completed projects of all kinds; and the United Way 2017-2018 fundraising campaign kicks off with an amazing demonstration of giving back.”

Nonprofits of all types are invited to submit projects for completion.

This year, United Way is working closely with members of the Gifford community to support certain neighborhood improvements; with the school district, offering local schools help with projects while engaging students in volunteerism; and with nonprofits of all kinds, supporting their endeavors with free people power.

Plans are being made for a 3rd Born Learning Trail to be built in this county. The trails are a series of interactive signs and painted images that promote learning through play. Last year, Day of Caring volunteers constructed one in Little League Park, Fellsmere, and in 2015 a trail was constructed in the Martin Luther King Jr. Walking Park and Trail in Gifford.

This year’s Day of Caring promises to be more impactful than ever,” according to Katie Kirk, United Way Board member and Day of Caring Chair, “we have an awesome team organizing the activities and lots of partners offering help. Many thanks to Publix for once again stepping up to sponsor this annual community event.”
