Police Chief David Currey is participating in a breast cancer awareness campaign.

VERO BEACH — In addition to fighting crime, a local police chief has joined a local campaign to raise money to fight breast cancer, according to a Vero Beach Police Department news release.

Chief David Currey is participating in the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign. The campaign gives communities the chance to nominate men to become leaders to manage fundraising efforts for the society’s breast cancer initiatives.

These initiatives include promoting early detection and prevention, funding groundbreaking research and giving patients support, according to the Real Men Wear Pink site

Currey has a $2,500 goal and has raised $100 so far, according to his fundraising page.

Every dollar raised supports the society’s mission to save lives from breast cancer. Currey said his mother, sister and mother-in-law are breast cancer survivors.

“This gives me the ability to connect and engage with our community for a very worthy cause,” Currey said in a news release. “Plus, I feel pink is one of my better colors.”
