Felony charges trump squatter’s bizarre behavior

On June 20, the state filed five charges against a Kissimmee woman who broke into a Melbourne Beach home last month. Franchesca Pacheco tasted the good life for a few days before flagging down a police officer who ended up arresting her.
According to documents obtained from the state and Melbourne Beach police, Pacheco committed burglary after breaking in May 16. Burglary of a dwelling is a felony, and a charge that most likely places Pacheco out of the bounds of mental health court, regardless of bizarre, delusional statements made to police.
Charges also include grand theft for use of a recently purchased 2017 Toyota minivan. Counts 3 and 4 dealt with resisting arrest with violence and battery of a police officer. The fifth count related to petit theft of less than $300 in clothing, cosmetics, food, beverages and utilities during her brief stay.
Around dawn on May 18, Pacheco waved down Det. Sgt. Melanie Griswold with a claim someone stole her driver’s license. Pacheco, 36, told Griswold she was Jehovah and owned Kissimmee. She also said an angel acting on God’s behalf gave her both the house on Oak Street and the Toyota.
Griswold didn’t buy the story and placed the woman under arrest. Pacheco stiffened her arms, kicked Griswold in the shin and attempted a head butt while the officer tried to do a pat-down. She also assaulted Griswold at the police station, grabbing her left thumb and digging her nails into the skin. After a several days at a Melbourne mental health facility, authorities transferred Pacheco to the Brevard County jail on May 22, where she remains on $21,000 bond.
Homeowners Tricia and Patrick Walborn were out of town at the time of the break-in. Patrick believes Pacheco gained access to the home by breaking into a lockbox, which contained the house key. She then found the garage door opener and the key to the minivan. He said the house was not destroyed but he and his wife found it in disarray.
“Based on the feedback from Melbourne Beach Police and the State Attorney Felony Division, Ms. Pacheco knows right from wrong,” Walborn said. “Quite possibly her rants about God and aliens was a ruse.”
During the investigation, Pacheco’s mother told Griswold her daughter had been off her prescribed medications for various mental health issues.
