Man hurt in two-vehicle crash near Vero Beach airport

VERO BEACH — A man was hurt in a two-vehicle crash near an airport in Vero Beach, deputies said.

Indian River County deputies responded to the crash involving a car and motorcycle about 3:30 p.m. Friday at the intersection of 43rd Avenue and 26th Street, deputy Corporal Michael Dilks said. The crash was just west of the Vero Beach Regional Airport and north of Historic Dodgertown, a multi-sport facility.

Dilks said a woman was driving a northbound car on 43rd Avenue when she ran the red light at 26th Street and was struck by a man on a westbound motorcycle.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce, Dilks said. He has non-life threatening injuries, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Mark Wysocky said.

Three children were in the car with the woman at the time of the crash. None have any injuries, Dilks said.

Both northbound and southbound traffic on 43rd Avenue was diverted west on 26th Street for about an hour, deputy Sgt. Paul Mewborn said.

The FHP is investigating the crash.
