Clerk’s office named No. 1 in state among peers for United Way giving

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Clerk of Court and Comptroller was recognized by the United Way of Indian River County as having the No. 1 Workplace Campaign among all 67 Clerks’ Offices in the State of Florida. Indian River County Clerk of Court and Comptroller, Jeffrey R. Smith, was presented the award during the United Way’s Annual Community Leaders Breakfast.

“I am so humbled to receive this award on behalf of my wonderful employees who gave of their own free will to advance the causes of the United Way here in Indian River County. I am so blessed to have such selfless people working in my office and serving the people of Indian River with grace and humility. I am also proud that we have outdone my colleagues around the state. I would like to thank my employees for their continued support of the United Way,” Smith said.

In addition to giving to the United Way through payroll deductions year-round, the Clerk’s employees also raise money for other charitable donations and Good Works through dress down days, raffles, and other fundraisers. Collectively, the employees vote on which organizations will receive their support, and 100 percent of the donations made in the Clerk’s name are funded by employee contributions.

The latest Good Works of the Clerk’s Employees include:

• Sending 11 care packages filled with comforts of the USA to American soldiers deployed around the world

• $370.41 used to purchase Mother’s Day gifts for the mothers and games for the children at SafeSpace’s shelter

• $229 donated to Sanctuary for Kids

• $118 donated to the Education Foundation of Indian River County

• $1064.29 donated to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. Employees and family members also participated in the annual walk that was held at Riverside Park in Vero Beach on Oct. 15.
