Local students named semifinalists in Broadcam MASTERS competition

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Please join Society for Science and the Public and Broadcom Foundation in congratulating middle school students Griffin Wagner, Olivia Lazorik and Clara Martin for their selection as top 300 semifinalists in the Broadcam MASTERS national middle school science and engineering competition.

Wagner is a student at Storm Grove Middle School, and Lazorik and Martin attend Saint Edward’s School. They were selected for this honor from a pool of 2,343 entrants and more than 6,000 nominees from affiliated science fairs across the United States.

On Sept. 20, 2016, 30 finalists were selected from the 300 semifinalists. Lazorik was chosen as one of those 30 finalists.

Finalists and one parent or guardian will receive $500 each and an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend the Broadcom MASTERS Finals Week competition from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, 2016. Finalists will present their research and compete in hands-on challenges for top prizes, including funds to attend a STEM summer camp, iPads, and the Samueli Prize of $25,000.
