Sunrise Rotary of Vero Beach prepares 848 oyster mats for placement

VERO BEACH — Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach Environmental Committee members and volunteers helped pick up and transport 848 oyster mats to be stored until the next three oyster reef sites are permitted in the Indian River Lagoon in 2017.

Committee members Jason Beal, Brian Carman, Bryan Wells, Paul Dritenbas, Nick Bruce, Ray Hooker and guest volunteers Johnathan Barket and Cathy Dritenbas picked the mats up from the ARC Workshop on 5th Street SW and took them to Walking Tree Brewery. Brew-master Mike Malone assisted the team with placing 75 mats on each pallet, shrink wrapping them, and moving them indoors with the fork lift.

The next oyster mat placement date is scheduled for Sept.3, 2016 where 221 mats will be placed on the CCA Site #3. Paul Dritenbas is the Committee Chair.
