Yachtsman’s dream home is breathtaking at every turn

It’s a dream house – a virtual palace, spacious and yet cozy, where a family is destined to thrive, unreeling endless amounts of joyful memories in a setting that’s unbelievably beautiful.

The Condons certainly created many memories during their 12 years in the luxurious waterfront house they built at 101 Springline Drive. A yachtsman’s delight situated on a 1.12-acre riverside lot in the prestigious Anchor gated community, the house features 5 bedrooms, 6 full baths, 3 half-baths and 9,000 square feet of air-conditioned living space that epitomizes luxury living on the barrier island.

The two-story house has a 250-foot seawall along a wide, deep-water canal flowing into the Intracoastal Waterway. There is a private dock with two lifts that can accommodate a 100-foot yacht, making it all the more enticing to a seaworthy owner.

“The house was a fulfillment of a dream in a sense,” said Chris Condon, reflecting on the home’s history. “We had not moved around extensively in the past. I saw the property when it was a vacant lot in the late ’80s when my dad and I first came into Vero. I noticed the location and thought, ‘Oh my goodness, wouldn’t that be a wonderful place to build a house?!’ ”

Indeed, it was. At the time, Condon and his wife Kathy were living on the ocean side in the Moorings.

“The bottom line is that the world turned in the right way, and we acquired the property,” he says.

It took two years to design and build the waterfront home with vaulted/cathedral ceilings, crown moldings, custom closets, entertainment spaces, large cabana and four-car garage. Designed by architect David Krumbhaar and built by Carol Bowser in 2004, this house is as solid and beautiful as they come.

“It was our dream home, our palace,” said Kathy Condon. “A part of it is very regal. It’s our home but it’s very much a palace.”

“It’s very calming, very peaceful, very homey,” she added.

Chris Condon says the versatility of the house is remarkable – you can find quiet places to work or engross yourself in projects and have privacy and yet still enjoy beauty. There are abundant areas to socialize as well.

On top of the thoughtful layout of the house and the aesthetic it offers, an important aspect is the solid construction. The house and other structures, including the cabana and pool, are supported by concrete pilings. There are some 147 pilings that extend 40 feet into ground. “If the island washes away, the house will be there,” said Chris Condon.

Enter the home through solid cherry wood double doors into an inviting two-story foyer with stately columns that is accented by an iron staircase and Italian marble floors. To the right is an office/den with mahogany floors, custom cherry built-ins and tray ceiling.

The formal living boasts abundant natural light from the French doors leading to the pool and spa, along with serene water views.

Just off the foyer and living room is a spacious formal dining room with tray ceiling, graceful columns and triple-crown molding for flair. Located strategically close to the wet bar and kitchen, the dining room is ideal whether you enjoy a small intimate meal or host a dinner party.

Entering the first-floor master suite, one can’t help but be mesmerized by views of the canal beyond the pool and patio. Two dressing rooms with center islands, built-in racks and dressing area offer space and a nice environment to think about what to wear that day or evening.

The master bath is a relaxing retreat with dual vanities, glass-enclosed shower with double shower heads, soaking tub, makeup vanity and water closet.

A bonus room in the master suite can be used as an exercise room, nursery or office.

The kitchen offers top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances including double wall ovens, microwave, extra wide refrigerator/freezer, compactor and dishwasher. Stunning granite graces the counters of the soft-close cherry wood cabinetry with ample storage space, wine racks and wine cooler. A breakfast nook overlooks the patio and water.

Just off the kitchen and family room is a full bath and bedroom.

Three sets of French doors lead to the patio and pool area from the family room, which has an atmospheric coral fireplace and cypress vaulted ceiling.

Outside, a cabana bar creates the perfect space for serving drinks and snacks poolside. Gorgeous tropical landscaping surrounds the pool and spa in this dreamy backyard paradise.

The private dock with two lifts make for easy access to your boat from the house.

Two additional bedrooms can be found on the second floor. Each features an en suite bath and walk-in closet. An elevator provides transportation to the second floor. Otherwise, there are front and back staircases.

The second floor also features a spacious media/recreation room with built-in entertainment center. There’s a large balcony where beautiful views await you.

Also on the second story: Complete, separate living quarters with kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom, providing the perfect space for a nanny’s suite or mother-in-law’s suite.

A four-car garage and large parking pads offer ample storage for vehicles and other purposes. Attached to the garage is yet another guest suite with sitting area and full bathroom.

The house sits on two lots with the 250 feet of water frontage with sea wall. Beautiful sunsets and water views are everywhere.

The Anchor is a private community within The Moorings with manned 24-hour security.

Country club membership is available, offering a spectacular clubhouse, yachting, golf, tennis, fitness center, spa, resort-style pool, dining and social events.

“When our children were in college, they brought their friends home,” said Kathy Condon. “We’d have eight college students come here … they’d have fun at the house. And my mother lived with us. It was wonderful having her there. Ours was the Thanksgiving and Christmas house.”

“Everything just flows,” she said of the floor plan. “We had a ping-pong table outdoors, a billiard table upstairs. It’s ideal for a very active, vibrant young family or else, an older family with a lot of grandchildren.”

“It will take a very discriminating buyer for this house,” said Nancy Hendricks, realtor with Treasure Coast Sotheby’s International Realty. “This home is the perfect house for someone who wants an outdoor life who may also be a car collector, yachtsman or have a family.”
