Veterans Council invites public to Memorial Day Ceremony May 30

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Veterans Council of Indian River County invites everyone to attend the 2016 Memorial Day Ceremony to be held on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary on Monday May 30. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with patriotic music provided by the Vero Beach High School Band and the Master’s Academy Fife and Drum Corps.

The ceremony will include full military honors. The customary wreath will be laid at the memorial of Scott Owen, who was the last Indian River County resident killed while in combat. This will be accompanied by bag pipes and ship’s bell.

Lieutenant General William Welser, USAF, Retired, will present the keynote address. In 2003 Welser commanded the 18th Air Force at Scott AFB, Illinois and is currently the President of the Space Coast Honor Flight Board.

The ceremony is open to the public. Please bring a chair and plan to arrive early.
