McKee Botanical Garden to host Willow Trellis Workshop

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — McKee Botanical Garden is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a Willow Trellis Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Attendees will be using the remaining willow saplings from Patrick Dougherty’s ‘Stickwork’ sculpture “THE ROYALS” which was recently completed at McKee.

“We wanted to do something with the remaining willow saplings that Patrick did not use and reached out to the community to see if anyone had done any type of weaving with willow,” stated McKee’s Executive Director, Christine Hobart.

Brenda Milan, a member of the South Florida Basket and Fiber Guild, is a fiber/mixed media artist that has worked extensively with willow in Alaska and is now living in South Florida in Stuart and continues to create willow sculptures.

The class will begin at 10:30 a.m. in McKee’s Richardson Education Building and will run until 12:30 p.m. The cost for the class is $50 and attendees will need to bring their own garden gloves and pruners. Class space is limited to 12 participants only. Please call (772) 794-0601 to make a reservation.
