Sheriff’s Office thanks Sunbonnet Sue Quilter’s Guild for donations

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Earlier this month, Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar presented a plaque to the Sunbonnet Sue Quilter’s Guild for their ongoing efforts to provide quilts and stuffed animals for victims in Indian River County.

Since 2005, the Guild has provided the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office with 843 quilts and 821 stuffed animals. These donations are distributed to deputies and victim advocates who then provide them to victims throughout the county.

Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar stated, “We are so appreciative of the quilts and stuffed animals the ladies of the Sunbonnet Sue Quilter’s Guild have provided us over the years. There are so many stories of our victim advocates responding to cases of domestic violence, child abuse, and other heinous crimes, where a simple gift of a quilt or toy is the only possession the victim may have. The work of the Guild makes a difference in our lives and in the lives of victims of crime.”

The Sunbonnet Sue Quilter’s Guild began in 1979 with just five members. They now have more than 100 members. The Guild meets every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, 475 43rd Avenue.
