Marine Bank and Trust encourages shoppers to buy local

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Just in time for the holidays, Marine Bank & Trust is encouraging shoppers to support small business owners by patronizing its locally-owned business customers listed in its online Buy Local Business Directory.

“When our small businesses thrive, the whole community succeeds,” said Bill Penney, president and CEO of the Bank. “Indian River County-based businesses offer virtually every service or product you might need. By doing business with small business owners, you are creating jobs, building a stronger tax base which improves our community. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

The US Small Business Association reports that small businesses generate 64 percent of new jobs and pay 44 percent of total US payroll. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, buying local also reduces the environment impact since small businesses carry more locally-made products and create less traffic and air pollution. Additional benefits may also include greater personal service, a more unique selection and increased support for local non-profit groups.
