We Care Foundation opens new clinic Dec. 4

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The grand opening celebration of the We Care Foundation of Indian River’s new We Care Clinic, is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event that will include a ribbon cutting ceremony, tours of the clinic and refreshments.

Located at the Gifford Health Center, 4675 28th Court in Vero Beach, the clinic is the first of its kind in Indian River County, and will serve as an extension of the We Care program that coordinates free physician services for more than 3,000 uninsured indigent patients in Indian River County.

The opening of the Clinic will expand existing medical services offered by the We Care program. The We Care Foundation Board of Directors anticipates that with the opening of the clinic, the more than 130 program volunteer physicians together with clinic staff will be able to provide necessary medical care to more qualified patients in need.

Funding for the clinic renovations has been provided by an Impact 100 grant. Proceeds from the We Care Foundation of Indian River’s annual Mardi Gras Celebration and private donations fund clinic supplies and program activities.

We Care Clinic administrative services are provided by the Indian River County Health Department. The Indian River County Hospital District currently funds medical staff salaries including a full-time primary care physician and two patient services/volunteer physician coordinators. These collaborative efforts combined with a new clinic and We Care program enhancements will effectively double We Care’s patient capacity for patients discharged from the hospital and emergency department.
