Indian River Symphonic Association launches 23rd Season Nov. 22

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River Symphonic Association opens its 23rd Season on Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 7:30 p.m., by presenting the Brevard Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Conductor Christopher Confessore, and featuring world-renowned Violin Soloist Elmar Oliveira.

The Concert will open with a “Special Audience Choice” determined by concert attendees in Melbourne and Vero Beach by ballot vote last April, and revealed as the winner at this performance.

Next, the Orchestra will perform Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto, Op. 14 (1940), one of the most lyrically beautiful and technically challenging string concertos of the 20th century. Elmar Oliveira is the only American violinist to win the Gold Medal at Moscow’s prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition; First Prize winner at the Naumburg International Competition, and the first violinist to receive the coveted Avery Fisher Prize.

The program’s second half features the Brevard Symphony Orchestra performing Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 in G minor, Winter Dreams, Op. 13. In 1868 when it was first performed in its entirety, “The First” was enthusiastically received and proved of historical significance as the first major symphony written by a Russian composer.
