Indian River County celebrates Veterans Day

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A bright sun shone down upon thousands of people in Indian River County as they attended two Veterans Day Ceremonies, one in Vero Beach and another in Sebastian.

In Vero, attendees headed over the bridge to the Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary to honor members of the armed forces from all branches of service and all wars and conflicts at last Wednesday’s Veterans Day Ceremony, hosted by the Veterans Council of Indian River County.

The crowd heard from guest speakers Lt. Gen. James H. Johnson, U.S. Army, Ret., and Master Chief Petty Officer Charles “Skip” Bowen, Ret., observed the solemn wreath laying ceremony, and listened with patriotic pride to members of the Master’s Academy Fife and Drum Corp and the Vero Beach High School Band.

Those in Sebastian attended a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at Riverview Park.

The colors were presented by a veterans honor guard while Special Forces Col. Bill Prince, retired US Army, provided the Keynote address.

The Sebastian River High School band provided patriotic music and local clergy and city and county officials were among those who attended the moving ceremony.

A reception and open house at Sebastian’s VFW Post 10210 followed the service.
