Osceola Magnet School 5th graders score high on FCAT in Science

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Osceola Magnet School’s new Principal, Scott Simpson, is proud to spread the news that Osceola’s 5th graders scored in the top state percentages on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) in Science.

Of Osceola’s 5th graders, 83 percent scored at Level 3 or above, ranking the school No. 65 out of 2,086 schools, which puts Osceola in the top 3 percent in Florida for proficiency.

Additionally, 42 percent of Osceola’s 5th graders scored at Level 5, ranking them No. 24 out of 2,086 schools, which puts them in the top 1 percent in Florida for students scoring at the highest level.

Mr. Simpson said, “These rankings are in line with Osceola Magnet School’s Vision that we will be a model for the state in the areas of Science and Math Exploration with the integration of the arts and literacy in an engaging, positive, and collaborative school community. As a magnet school that specializes in science and math, our hard work and strong science emphasis have shown in our scores this last year.”

Dr. Mark Rendell, Superintendent, added, “We are very proud of the success of Osceola’s 5th graders on the FCAT Science Assessment in 2014-2015, and look forward to continued success and even more improvement for 2015-2016.”
