IRSC’s Dr. Roberts to be President of Ulster County Community College

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Dr. Alan Roberts, Vice President of Applied Science and Technology at Indian River State College (IRSC), has been appointed President of Ulster County Community College. The Kingston, New York college is a part of the respected State University of New York (SUNY) system of public colleges and universities.

“Dr. Roberts was selected as President of UCCC due to his strong record of significant accomplishment at IRSC over the past 24 years,” said Dr. Edwin R. Massey, IRSC President. “It has been a lifelong goal of Dr. Roberts to serve as a community college president and we are proud and confident he will be as successful in this new role as he has been at IRSC.”

Dr. Roberts joined IRSC in 1991 as a business management faculty member. Always maintaining a clear focus on economic and workforce development, he earned positions of increasing responsibility, including Dean of Business and Industrial Technology, Dean of Health Sciences and most recently as Vice President of Applied Science and Technology.

His accomplishments include establishing the Power Plant Technology Institute, which was recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as one of the Top Five College and Corporate Training Partnerships in the U.S.; securing several grants, including a $2.9 million National Science Foundation grant to develop a Laser and Fiber Optics Regional Center at IRSC; designing and developing the Treasure Coast Public Safety Training Complex and the Brown Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The Fort Pierce resident has been very involved in the community, establishing many valuable business and industry partnerships for IRSC, as well as serving as a Board member and former Campaign Chair for United Way of St. Lucie County.

“Alan brings a focus on student success and a track record of developing community partnerships, which are vital for SUNY Ulster to achieve its mission and vision,” said UCCC Chair of the Board of Trustees William Spearman. “His expertise in creating new programs and developing collaborative networks to secure grants and other sources of support come at a critically important time as the college strives to offer new and traditional programs that provide career, transfer and economic development opportunities for the region.”

IRSC will conduct a nationwide search for Dr. Roberts’ replacement.
