Exchange Club awards three students with scholarships

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Exchange Club of the Treasure Coast awarded two Youth of the Year scholarships and one Accepting the Challenge of Excellence (ACE) scholarship at the Youth Guidance Center May 13, 2015. Alani Wiltison and Aworg Arrington each received $500 scholarship awards for Youth of the Year. Apolonija Morabito received the ACE $1000 scholarship. The awards were presented by Kim Prado immediate past president of the Exchange Club of the Treasure Coast.

Youth of the Year Scholarships recognize students who have attained high levels of scholastic achievement, community involvement and leadership. The recipients gave a short presentation about their accomplishments and their aspirations for their future and college education.

Morabito read the essay she submitted for the ACE award. She shared the positive and dramatic changes in her attitude and performance during her high school years, and how she overcame great obstacles to graduate from high school. She is looking forward to achieving her dreams.

Leslie Spurlock, Exchange Club of the Treasure Coast Grant Chair, presented a $4000 grant to Kevin Moree, a Youth Guidance Board Member. The grant will enable Youth Guidance to continue their work in the community. A portion of the grant was designated for the Excel Pathfinder Club chartered in November 2014 in cooperation with Youth Guidance. Five members of the Excel Pathfinders are attending the Regional Exchange Club Convention in Jacksonville, May 16 and 17.
