Laura Riding Jackson Foundation hosts teen poetry workshop April 11

SEBASTIAN — The Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation is pleased to invite all high school students to its next free workshop on writing poetry.

“As usual, we will feature a national figure in poetry to conduct our workshop. This year, Lawrence Hetrick, lifetime educator, author and editor of the Chatahootchee review is on deck,” said Sean Sexton.

Hetrick will explode and explore a couple of well-known poems, review poetry students write and submit before the workshop (under a name or anonymously), and challenge students to write a poem using specific words and images. Submitting poetry for review is optional for the workshop.

Workshop details are posted under the event tab at www.LRJF.org.

The workshop is open to all high school students, including home schooled students, from grades 9-12. The class will be held at the Environmental Learning Center’s Lagoon Room on Saturday, April 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. To register for this workshop, send an email including the student’s name, grade, school, and parental contact information to TeenWriters@LauraRidingJackson.com. Registration is required.

The Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation is a 501(c)3 which preserves and celebrates the home and work of their late namesake poet, as well as encouraging literacy among local teens with their Teen Writing Workshops.
