SAFIR’s holds community coalition meeting, Jan. 22

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River County’s prevention coalition, SAFIR, Substance Abuse Free Indian River, will be hosting a community coalition meeting on Thursday, January 22 at 3 p.m., Substance Awareness Center Conference Room, 1507 20th St, Vero Beach.

“This particular meeting is crucial for the coalition. We will be redirecting our focus and implementing new strategies for the up-coming year,” said coalition coordinator Dave Cavell.

Robin Dapp, director at SAFIR said, “We ended 2014 with exciting news to report. According to the Youth substance Abuse Survey, the substance use in the major categories: alcohol, marijuana and tobacco are down. We attribute the reduction to the coalition’s ongoing strategies to reduce alcohol use among our youth.”

The coalition welcomes all members of the community to be a part of this rewarding work: from law enforcement administrators and nonprofit directors to teachers, parents, and others. The organization’s members come from a variety of traditional and non-traditional backgrounds.

The Substance Awareness Center is the lead agency and fiscal agent for SAFIR, Indian River County’s state approved prevention coalition. SAFIR’s mission is to strengthen the ability of our community to create and maintain a safe, healthy and drug free environment for children and families.
