Winn-Dixie launches hunger relief program

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — As more than 16 percent of children on Florida’s Treasure Coast do not know when they will eat their next meal, Winn-Dixie Stores Inc., launched its Holiday Hunger Relief Program to help eliminate hunger in local communities this holiday season.

From now through Dec. 23, Winn-Dixie customers can help provide meals for families in need by donating to Treasure Coast Food Bank at any store register when they purchase groceries.

“Food and togetherness are at the core of everything we do, especially in preparation for the holidays,” said Mary Kellmanson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of Winn-Dixie. “The Holiday Hunger Relief Program is our way of ensuring that all of our neighbors are able to enjoy holiday meals by supporting the food banks that provide them.”

Contributions of any size will make a significant impact in battling hunger this season. Every dollar donated goes directly to local Feeding America food banks in the communities that Winn-Dixie serves. Thousands of local families will benefit from these donations and receive fresh, nutritious foods.

Winn-Dixie has a rich history of supporting its neighborhoods and communities through foundation, company, and vendor-supported charitable donations and programs. Winn-Dixie’s passion for giving back to its communities has always been reinforced by the generous nature of the customers. They never fail to deliver for those in need in the community.

Winn-Dixie customers generously donated more than $81,000 during the grocer’s Summer Hunger Relief Backpack Program, helping fill backpacks with fresh, healthy foods for children in need.
