Trinity St. Cecilia Choir offers Advent Service Nov. 30

VERO BEACH — On November 30, 2014, at 4 p.m., the Trinity St. Cecilia Choir and friends, under the direction of Trinity Organist and Choirmaster Dr. Jason Hobratschk, will offer its annual Advent Service of Lessons and Carols.

Known best in its Christmas form celebrated since 1918 at King’s College, Cambridge, a Service of Lessons and Carols was first organized in 1880 by Edward White Benson, Bishop of Truro, and later Archbishop of Canterbury.

Trinity’s Service is a variant of the King’s College Service and focuses on the prophecy and Advent of the Messiah.

Trinity’s Advent Service of Lessons and Carols features seven scripture readings from the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden to the Annunciation to Mary that she will bear the Christ.

Interspersed among the readings are congregational hymns, including the beloved “Lo! He comes with clouds descending,” choral carols, and anthems. The Trinity Choir will sing music by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Charles Wood, and others, including Dr. Jason Hobratschk.

Ms. Elizabeth LaJeunesse, Organist of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Tallahassee, will serve as guest organist and will offer a Recital-Prelude beginning at 3:30 p.m.

A freewill offering will benefit music at Trinity, and all are warmly welcomed to attend.

The service will take place at Trinity Episcopal Church, 2365 Pine Avenue, Vero Beach.
