Humane Society offers family program ‘Florida’s Urban Wildlife’

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Have you ever spotted something slithering, creeping, running or flying in your backyard and wondered what it was? Want to see a mystery animal who hails from Florida?

If you’re curious about urban wildlife, then head on over to the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County on Wednesday, March 19, from 7-9 p.m. for a free presentation that’s perfect for families: “Florida’s Urban Wildlife.”

Vero Beach Animal Control Officer Bruce Dangerfield and Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County Director of Animal Protective Services Ilka Daniel will provide a fun and educational presentation while giving adults and children alike the chance to see a variety of both common and unusual animals up close and in person.

Daniel and Dangerfield will demonstrate how to identify common urban wildlife, explain their behavior in the wild and explore ideas that can help protect animals who share our neighborhoods and open spaces and deter “nuisance” wildlife.

Guests will also have the chance to hear about Dangerfield and Daniel’s many unexpected and funny encounters with animals like raccoons, snakes and alligators – all right here in Indian River County.

“Florida’s Urban Wildlife” will be held in the Humane Society’s Adoption and Education Building, located at 6230 77th St., Vero Beach. This is a free event that’s open to the public. For more information and to reserve seating call (772) 388-3331 ext. 18.

The Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping and protecting the animals of Indian River County.
