Sebastian Officer saves suicidal driver who ran car into lagoon

SEBASTIAN — A Sebastian Police Officer rescued a suicidal woman last night who drove a car into the Indian River Lagoon, according to authorities.

The car floated 20-30 feet into the water, according to police. The vehicle was half submerged. Officer Ryan Matthews responded to the scene and made the rescue. 

The driver entered the water in the area of 806 Indian River Dr., Sebastian. Authorities responded to a call about a car in the lagoon.

Indian River Fire Department’s Engine 9 responded, but was called off by law enforcement.

The driver was taken into custody and placed in a police vehicle.
