Samaritan Center Soup Bowl workshop artisans reach 400 in the first week

VERO BEACH -- The Samaritan Center, a long term facility for homeless families with dependent children in Indian River County, gears up for its Soup Bowl fundraising event each summer with the Samaritan Center Soup Bowl workshop held at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. The workshop began August 13 and artisans reached 400 in the first week. The public is invited to watch the wheel throwing the weekends of Aug.t 20 and 21 and Aug.27 and 28 during Museum hours. "The bowls are outstanding this year!" said Shotsi Cain Lajoie, event co-chair and workshop coordinator. Meet the Locals Pottery Show at Flametree Clay Art Gallery opens Aug. 26

VERO BEACH -- Flametree Clay Art Gallery will host a Meet the Locals Pottery Show from August 26 through September 30. The opening reception from 5 to 9 pm for this event coincides with the Summer Sizzler Stroll on Friday, August 26, an event that attracts many of the area's year-round residents. Vero Beach supports a very active, closely knit ceramic artist community. "Meet the Locals" was conceived as a way to have veteran potters interact with newcomers to the craft, and as a way to introduce these local potters to Vero Beach's local residents.
