INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The District 3 seat on the Board of County Commissioners covers a large portion of Indian River County including south of State Road 60 west of US 1, with the exception of the territory of District 4, south of the City of Vero Beach.

The seat is currently held by Gary Wheeler, who decided not to seek re-election. The seat is open and three candidates are seeking to fill it.

The candidates are Anthony Donadio, Bea Gardner, and Tim Zorc.

The term is for four years.

The Board of County Commissioners is tasked with setting the budget and policy for Indian River County and oversees the Constitutional Officers – the Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Supervisor of Elections.

Commissioners’ salaries are $56,123. The county budget for the 2011-12 fiscal year is $307,016,941.

Two members are elected on odd-numbered years, while the remaining three are elected on even-numbered years.  City Council candidates run at-large and represent the entire city.
