Theatre-Go-Round moves to Joey’s Bistro

VERO BEACH — As Theatre-Go-Round begins to celebrate its fifth anniversary season, it has also found itself in a new home. The popular dinner theatre company will be relocating to Joey’s Bistro along the pond at the 3 Avenues Plaza on the Miracle Mile.

Opening night, scheduled for May 6, will feature their current running production “Sounds of the 70’s”. The dinner and dance party highlights the musical numbers from such divas as Donna Summer, Yvonne Elliman, Tina Turner, Gloria Gaynor, Cher, Bette Midler and Abba.

The local dynamic trio of Eleanor Dixon, Beth McKenzie-Shestak and Sharma Turner has successfully performed the production for 4 previous performances at the Vero Beach Elks Lodge in February and March, as well as a sellout performance at the Ft. Pierce Lodge this past week.

The current performances will continue at Joey’s Bistro on Sundays, May 13, 20 and 27.

With the overwhelming response to this particular production of dinner, live show and dancing, Artistic Producer Jon Putzke felt that it was the ideal vehicle to present in their new location.

“Joey’s affords a highly visible location for our operation, and its spacious seating arrangements at tables for 2, 4 and 6 people around an intimate stage is an ideal setting for our dinner theatre operation,” Putzke said.

Putzke also stated he was pleased that Joey’s would be offering his patrons four choices on the dinner theatre menu that would include chicken picatta, grilled mahi mahi, top sirloin marsala or fettuccine alfredo.

Entrees will include a choice of soup or salad, focaccia bread and pesto, seasonal vegetables and a choice of risotto, red roasted or mashed potatoes and a specialty dessert. All meals will be individually cooked to order.

A full service bar featuring a vast variety of beverages and show specialties will be available throughout the evening.

Theatre-Go-Round began producing productions as a dinner theatre format under Putzke’s direction in 2007 originally at the Best Western on State Road 60.

When offered to move to the former La Fonda on 34th Ave., Putzke took the opportunity to develop his dinner theatre company in their own location for the 18 months remaining on the current lease between Geraldo Martinez and the city-owned property.

When the lease transferred to Felix’s Cuban Restaurant, Theatre-Go-Round continued its operations out of the Elks Lodge for this past season.

When asked why the move to Joey’s, Putzke said that he had always had his eye on the popular waterfront Bistro as an ideal setting for dinner theatre.

“The facility is spacious and well appointed with comfortable red velvet chairs that can easily swivel as our performers continue to present our musical revues around the entire room.”

Putzke added that the sound system is top notch and that the quality food, friendly service and location all added to the reasons for the move.

“I think our patrons are going to love the ‘supper club’ intimacy of a by-gone era and, of course, our top-notch productions” Putzke explained.

“Sounds of the 70’s” will be performed on the four Sundays in May.

Seating and a cocktail hour, featuring a la carte appetizers, begins at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m., and the show begins at 6 p.m.

The dinner theatre package, including dinner, show, tax and gratuity, remains at the bargain price of $45 per person. If available the day of performance, seating at the bar for show only will be $22.50 per person.

Reservations are required and can be made by phoning the theatre’s box office line at (772) 252-9341.

Theatre-Go-Round’s summer production “Dancing in the Streets: Swingin’ to the Songs of the 60’s,” will open Sunday, June 10.
