VERO BEACH — On April 21 at the Emerson Center in Vero Beach at 7 p.m., the audience will get a big helping of bebop jazz, as well as favorites from The American Songbook and contemporary jazz.
“We play all styles, but our specialty is bebop,” explained Dr. Ray Adams, keyboard artist for the trio. Bebop, popularized in the 1940’s and 50’s by jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker, is an exciting musical style characterized by fast tempos, instrumental virtuosity, and improvisation.
The Soulfege trio consists of Dr. Ray Adams on keyboard, Dave Mundy on bass, and Richie Mola on drums. Ray Adams is the Artistic Director for the Indian River Charter High School and the Schumann school for Visual and Performing Arts. Dave Mundy is the instrumental jazz instructor at the school.
Richie Mola is a music instructor in Brevard County.
The trio has been playing together for several years to very enthusiastic audiences.
The April 21 concert is a scholarship fundraiser for The Academy for the Performing Arts. Proceeds will be used to provide music instruction for young musicians who would not otherwise afford lessons.
Harriet Yemm, Executive Director for the Academy, reported that there are many students on a waiting list for scholarships. “The Academy has been proud of its tradition of scholarship assistance, and we want to continue to serve these worthy students. We don’t want to turn any deserving child away.”
