School District’s enrollment open for free summer VPK

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The School District of Indian River County has announced the opening of enrollment for Florida’s free Summer Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program. The Summer Voluntary Pre-K Program is a high quality and developmentally appropriate 300-hour instructional program with certified teachers.

The program begins June 12 and continues through July 27. Available student hours begin at 7:40 a.m. and continue through 5:20 p.m. Pending enrollment, the Summer Voluntary Pre-K Program will be offered at Glendale Elementary, located at 4940 8th Street, Vero Beach, and Liberty Magnet School located at 6850 81st Street, Vero Beach.

The Summer Voluntary Pre-K Program promotes readiness for school success and a positive transition to kindergarten. This program is free of charge for children who are, or will be, 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 and who will be entering kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year.

However, the child may not have participated in the Voluntary Pre-K school year program during the 2011 – 2012 school year.

To enroll a child, parents can register with the School District of Indian River County Pre-K Office at J. A. Thompson Lifelong Learning Center, which is located at 1110 18th Avenue, SW, Vero Beach.

Pre-K staff will be enrolling children on:

  • Wednesday, March 28, 9a.m. – Noon
  • Tuesday, April 3, 9a.m. – Noon
  • Wednesday, April 4, 9a.m. – Noon
  • Thursday, April 5, 9a.m. – Noon

A special enrollment date has been scheduled for north county residents on Thursday, March 29, from 9a.m. – Noon at Pelican Island Elementary, which is located at 1355 Schumann Drive, Sebastian.

Registration for the School District of Indian River County’s Summer Voluntary Pre-K program will remain open, and by appointment only, through July. Families can enroll with the School District of Indian River County Pre-K Office at J. A. Thompson Lifelong Learning Center, which is located at 1110 18th Ave. SW, Vero Beach, after the registration dates offered by scheduling an appointment with school district personnel.

Documentation for enrollment:

  • Proof of the child’s age (Required – Ex: original birth certificate)
  • Proof of the family’s residency (Required – Ex: a bill for a service that you receive in your name at your current address)
  • Child’s Social Security card (Optional – if available at the time of registration)
  • Certificate of Eligibility (Required – this is obtained from the Early Learning Coalition located at 2459 14th Ave., Vero Beach, 772-567-7480)
