Science Café at Majestic Theatre features Secret Lights in the Sea

VERO BEACH — Team ORCA, the Ocean Research and Conservation Association will present “Secret Lights in the Sea” & “Creatures of the Deep” featuring Dr. Edie Widder, ORCA’s CEO and Chief Scientist, from 10 a.m. to Noon, Monday, Jan. 30 at the Majestic Theatre in Vero Beach.

Enjoy a cup of coffee with Dr. Widder, as she shares her “secret lights in the sea” with her audience. Dr. Widder is one of the world’s top experts on bioluminescence, the phenomenon of sea animals producing light.

Before starting her own research organization, Ocean Research and Conservation Association (ORCA) in 2005, Dr. Widder was a Senior Scientist at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Ft. Pierce. She co-holds the patent on the instrument that is the US Navy standard for measuring bioluminescence in the world’s oceans.

This will be the first of several Science Cafes to be offered at the Majestic Theatre in Vero Beach.
