Dyer Difference Award presented to Hibiscus Children’s Center

VERO BEACH — Dyer Chevrolet and Dyer Mazda Subaru have announced the Hibiscus Children’s Center as the 39th recipient of the Dyer Difference Award, which salutes a non-profit organization in Indian River County that is truly making a difference in our community. The Dyer Difference Award along with a $3,000 check was presented to the Hibiscus Children’s Center in support of two separate programs.

The first project is the backpack project, run by high school senior Katy Mulligan who is known as the “backpack fairy”. Mulligan raises funds to help ensure that every child at the Hibiscus Center has a brand new backpack completely filled with what they will need for the new school year.

“Katie has been working on this project for six years and has been invaluable to us,” said Tom Maher, Hibiscus CEO.

Maher also accepted the funding on behalf of the center’s major fundraiser, “A Night in Vienna” 2011 Hibiscus Winter Gala.

“We are grateful to the Hibiscus Center for providing safety for these abused, neglected and abandoned children in our county,” said Will Dyer.
