Patients show appreciation through new grateful patient program

VERO BEACH — Indian River Medical Center (IRMC) has a new program in place that provides a way for grateful patients and/or their family members to thank a caregiver who made a difference in their treatment or in the care of a loved one.

The Grateful Patient Program, established in March in conjunction with Doctor’s Day, lets people say “thank you” by making a tax-deductible gift to the Foundation in honor of a caregiver. Acknowledgments are sent to all honored caregivers to let them know a gift (not the amount) has been made in their name and by whom. Anyone, not just clinical staff, who contributes to a good patient experience, can be honored.

“The response to the program has been positive,” said Myra Burns, manager of Donor Relations for the IRMC Foundation. “The gifts are especially meaningful and encouraging to the caregivers. And they ensure quality healthcare for future IRMC patients by funding advancements in technology and equipment and improving patient care programs and services.”

Everyone on staff with the hospital who has been honored with a gift in their name is recognized as an IRMC Shining Star.
