Space Coast Symphony brings The Music Man to Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Enjoy toe-tapping fun during a musical trip to River City, Iowa when Meredith Willson’s The Music Man comes to Vero Beach, 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts at St. Edwards School, 1895 Saint Edwards Drive, 32963.

Maestro Aaron Collins and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will present an un-staged production of The Music Man, enlarging the pit orchestra and performing it like a live radio show. Up and coming baritone, Stephen Mumbert will star as Professor Harold Hill, while soprano Eliza Dopira will take the role of Marian Paroo.

A talented chorus of various local singers will round out the characters and give life to this beloved American musical, winner of five Tony Awards. The audience will hear such well-known songs as, ‘Til There Was You, Seventy-Six Trombones and (Ya Got) Trouble.

“This will be a really fun program,” said Collins. “The Music Man is one of the greatest musicals written and bulking up the pit orchestra will give it an even more exciting sound. If you enjoy the ‘radio show’ style of A Prairie Home Companion, you’re going to love The Music Man.”

$20 advance tickets may be purchased online at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org, in person at Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) or Madison Avenue Consignments, or by calling (321) 536-8580.

Tickets at the door are $25. Students 18 years of age and under admitted free. For those unable to afford the price of general admission, the SCSO Symphony for Everyone program will provide discounted tickets. See details at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org.
